U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem

The vote to condemn the plan to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem on December 21, 2017 met much resistance at the United Nations. The vote was 128 against, 9 in favor, and 35 abstentions.

It is strangely interesting that this vote came just after Hanukkah, historically when the Jewish people had to fight the Greeks for control of their land. This time, instead of the Greeks, Israel is fighting the United Nations over almost the same issue.

The vote verifies the tensions about Jerusalem that Zechariah wrote about 2,500 years ago. The tensions will eventually lead to a great battle over Jerusalem. Zechariah 14:2 states, "For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle...". That battle will end with the return of Jesus to the Mt. of Olives (in East Jerusalem). The battle will be an unfortunate event, but the return of Jesus is WELCOME! Zechariah 14:9 states that immediately following, Jesus will become King over the whole earth.

Meanwhile, it would be wise for the nations to be careful how they deal with God's chosen city, Jerusalem. Zechariah states, "Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around..."It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it..."In that day the LORD will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem..."And in that day I will set about to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem". (quoted from Zechariah 12:2-9).

As we await the soon return of the Lord to be King on earth, may He rule in our hearts as King today!
